dance theater Mississippi to debut Wade in the Water, a Transdisciplinary Show During Harlem Renaissance Weekend at 100 Men Hall.

dance theater Mississippi returns to the stage on Sunday, February 5th from 6:00–8:00PM in the debut of Wade in the Water. The performing arts group is coming to Bay St. Louis after a successful performance at the Gulfport Arts Center in December.

Shaninun Pittman, founder of dance theater Mississippi, shares the highlights of the debut of Wade in the Water, “First, the performance is a tribute to Bay St. Louis’ own world renown sculptor Richmond Barthé (1901–1989). We celebrate his legacy through dance, performance poetry, music, and the display of the creative work of local visual artists. All of this is woven into an integrated mélange of the cultural arts like has never been done before as part of Harlem Renaissance Weekend at 100 Men Hall.”

Performers and artists participating from the Mississippi Gulf Coast are Nita L. Chase, Ann Madden, Gerrol Benigno, Greg Breland, Julien Bryne, Kat Fitzpatrick, Barbara Groves, Ellen Ellis Lee, Don Mathiston, Wilson Saunders, Emily Sholes Smith, Ebony Bradley, Adrianne Powers, LeKeisha Cotten, Eric Funches, Monica Hurst, Stacia Johnson, Simone Layton, Canethia Lyons, Stephanie Piper, Shaninun Pittman, and Patricia Quave.

Admission is free. For details visit 100MenHall.com. 100 Men Hall is located at 303 Union Street in Bay St. Louis, MS

“…a shadow of things to come…”

dance theater Mississippi (dtMS) is the state’s premier performance art collaborative and one of three bus and truck organizations operating under the auspices of Calla Entertainment.

Formally founded in 2018, dtMS remains committed to the collective creation of compelling and new choreographic works that refract both the beauty and brilliance of our inclusive coastal communities.

Participation in Gulfport Arts Center’s (GAC) Spirits of Christmas GALA 2022 is our first performance since COVID-19 forced us into hiatus. Still, we are so very pleased to have formed and cultivated this partnership and look forward to a vibrant future creating community together.

“…a shadow of things to come…” is handsomely endowed thanks to support from Pass Christian Books/Cat Island Coffeehouse, Robin’s Nest in the Pass/Roberts Place Café, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
